Fit the sixth, did it finally vanish?

Is it gone? Aged off Usenet? The actors cast to the four winds and the
audience scattered like so many grains of sand?

Or does it just take one post to bring the thread back?

It seemed pointless, I doubt there was ever an audience.

It's coming up to 42 years since
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy_Primary_and_Secondary_Phases#The_Secondary_Phase
was broadcast.

We were always our own (dwindling) audience, and our adlibbed and
unspoken (but typed) additions to the original text have been a lot of
fun.

Nothing really disappears from usenet these days. Or indeed, ever.
Compiling the texts of all our "performances" is one of my many
background projects!

The bit I linked to says:

These final five episodes (the last on radio until 2004) were 'stripped,'
or broadcast on each of five days in a single week in January 1980.[8]

Damn I'm a year out!

I always felt that was the best part, the "meta story" of adlibbed stage
direction and setting the atmosphere. Kind of like the illustrated
HHGTTG, a version of the scripts could've been created incorporating
those additions.

That's one of the reasons I have a background project of creating
as definitive an archive of all alt.fan.douglas-adams posts as is
possible - to be able to publish in readable form our revised script!

As cool as it was that we raced through the first episode in 6 weeks,
I don't think we got our adlibbing properly happening until during the
second
