Remember the story when Arthur ate someone else's biscuits? Chapter 20 in So Long And Thanks For All The Fish. Just wondered if something like that has ever happened to you? Because it has to me. Twice actually.

Story 1: Went away for a few days with my wife and kid, and discovered each morning that one of them must be using my tube of toothpaste because the way it was squeezed was different to the way I do it. Never managed to catch the culprit in the act, but made a point of squeezing it the right way again each time I used it myself. Took five days before I discovered my own tube of toothpaste still packed in my suitcase.

Story 2: My wife likes showers, while I prefer to soak in the bathtub. Each morning when I start the water running, the shower sprinkles water all over the place because the button hasn't been pushed back in after use as a shower. Quietly cursed my wife for years until the day I noticed that at the end of each bath, I briefly rinse it out by using the shower.

Your stories made me laugh…8) I could almost imagine the look on the other
one‘s face, wondering who squeezed their tube of toothpaste wrong.

What I liked best about Adams‘ story was the end: that somewhere in England
was a guy who has exactly the same story to tell that he did, but without
the solution at the end…8)

Cheers,

Enough to make that Englishman never travel by train again. Maybe it started raining on him that day too

I actually read that story first in some old story by Ephraim Kishon. I
just assumed it was one of those stories that had been around ever since
people started to travel.

One of those type of things where, people being people, have probably
been encountering versions of it since the cavemen were playing
scrabble.

I know afda once had a lengthy crossthreaded argument with an urban
folklore newsgroup who decided that Adams was a charletan over this
story, and didn't seem to grasp that just because the basic story may
have been published (or told on radio, or something) before Douglas
wrote it in Fish, that it couldn't possibly have also actually have
happened to Douglas.
